Chapter Five

~ Embry ~

This wasn’t at all how I’d envisioned the night going, but damn, if I had no complaints. I’d wanted Paige in my arms and in my bed for way too long. Now, that it was finally happening, my brain yelled for me to slow down, not to rush her.

My body told my brain to fuck off.

Besides, Paige was giving me all the right signs. I thought if I put her off now, besides the pain to my dick, it would cause her to doubt me, doubt us and this fiery attraction we’d both been suppressing. I couldn’t have that.

“I like your house,” she commented as when I led her into the entry hall. “It’s not huge and ostentatious.” She glanced around the space. “It’s comfortable and not overdone and showy. At least what I see of it.”

“It’s all like this.”

“It’s nice.”

“You can do whatever you want with it.”

Her eyes widened for just a moment, then she tilted her head and raised an eyebrow at me. “You don’t think that’s a little fast?”

I shrugged. “I already told you how I feel. This is the start of a relationship. Our relationship that will last…oh I don’t know—as long as I’m breathing. If you’re not there yet, then we’re not here yet. And maybe I should show you the home theater and we can watch one of the movies I have on streaming.”

She paused, studying me, and I liked that she was a thinker, that she wasn’t just going to jump. That meant there was less chance of her changing her mind later. I wanted her all in. I needed her to be.

“Maybe, you can show me the house…”

Oh, well, shit.

“…Later. I’d really like a tour and to see everything. But Embry, I don’t really care about the house. I’m here for you. If I wasn’t sure, I wouldn’t be here. Just…always be the you you’ve shown me. Always tell me the truth, always be genuine with me.”

“Always.” My conscience niggled at me because there were three pretty big things I was keeping from her. I’d figure out a way to tell her, but now would screw up everything.

Stepping closer, I drew her into my arms and slid one hand into her soft hair. Angling her head, I pressed my lips over hers and kissed her like I’ve wanted to since the day I’d first lain eyes on her. Paige moaned, curling her fingers into my shirt. Her body melted into mine as she went to her toes to get closer to me. Her arms circled my shoulders.

“Embry,” she whispered against my mouth.

“My Paige. I feel like I’ve waited so long.”

“Me, too.”

I lifted her, and her legs wrapped around my waist. Her heart pressed against my erection and I thought I might lose myself right then and there.

“You feel so good,” I muttered, grinding into her. Fucking heaven. I couldn’t believe I finally had my girl here in my arms.

“We’ll feel better naked, I bet,” she teased.

“You’re right about that.”
